Send mass email from a Report?

Is there any way to run a Contacts Report, and then send the Contacts on that Report a mass email (not using an outside email vendor, but from w/in SF)?

I haven't figured out a way to do it from the reports, the two options I've discovered are:

1) export the report and use the emails to run it through another system.

2) Use the List views on the contacts tab to create a new view with the correct filters, to mass email clients. It used to be a limit of 500 per blast, not sure if they've increased it with the new release.

The creating a View suggestion does work but as you can imagine, is more limited than creating a Report. ie- I need to email contacts with a certain phrase occuring in the Contact's Activity History. Activities are not really searchable inside of Views from what I can tell.

Pardon my late interruption into this completed thread, but we are a new customer that has been using SF.com for approx. 3 months in a conf. room pilot mode. As we develop more knowledge and skills, we are then mapping our changes we plan to make to tailor SF to our processes (e.g., changing the sales stages and %, etc.). It is the trival stuff that is perplexing us at present, such as executing a simple mass mailing.

I was able to poke around through the various mass mailing threads and see that most are far advanced on use of the system beyond our stage. For our needs, we developed a simple Contact/View List for a specific mailing. We can't figure out how to them convert this e-mail listing into a mass e-mail process within SF.com. I know I can send individual e-mails from the Opps and Contact screens, but we can't quite pull off the mass mailing inside SF.com. We can export the e-mail addresses to an outside process, but we are led to believe we can do this in SF.com.

As time allows, can you suggest some readings or quick tips for me as we may be overlooking the obvious?

Be sure you have the "mass email" permission on your profile. If you do then click on the leads tab. Look under the "tools" section, lower right of page. You'll see a link for "mass email". There is where you set the 'views' Hope that helps.

I will go research. I have an admin profile, but I haven't checked to see if this is a default setting or if I need to change this. I am the second admin on the system and the original setup was accomplished before I got involved. Thanks again.

In follow up, I have checked my admin profile (Setup/ManageUsers/Profile) and I was setup with Mass E-mail capabilities. I reviewed the Leads tab and found the Mass E-Mail feature under the Tools section at the bottom of the page. I then checked under Contacts and found the same feature. I was able to successfully "spam" my company users (I have also set my company up as an Account and loaded all in as Contacts) with a simplistic mass e-mail. I will await the beatings, but at least I have some success. Thanks again.

There is also a new feature in the latest release that allows you to mass email your Users (without using Contacts as an intermediary):
